Architecture

Picture
The NHML is also well known for its beautiful architecture. Its architecture is of thy Renaissance time, and comes from Florence. Here are a few famous sculptures from the NHML:

L'Italien(the Italian) are the two columns on the side of the building(picture above). They were supposed to be in marble, but it was too hard to make them so they settled for granite from Baveno, Italy.

Le Français(the Frenchman) is not  sculpture, but is the granite the building was made with. The minerals are from The Mont-Blanc and resemble squashed chewing gum.

L'Ecossais(the Scotsman) are the shields on the sides of the door(picture on the left). The rock was not considered art so import fees were paid to bring it in.

History

Picture
The founder of the NHML is Gabriel de Rumine(image to the left) the son of a russian Tsar. At his death he donated 1.5 million francs to Lausanne to build a public building for everyone. First it gave university projects, like libraries and then started keeping track of some history exhibits and slowly transformed into what it is now.
